Lake Rotorua Nutrient Management Plan and OverseerFM

A Nutrient Management Plan outlines how a farm can meet its nitrogen discharge allocation while identifying areas where industry best practices can reduce nitrogen and phosphorus losses. For most farms, this plan supports a resource consent application required under Plan Change 10.

Subdivision can be a way to meet a farm’s Nitrogen Discharge Allocation (NDA). To help assess nitrogen loss linked to subdivision as a land use change, two calculators have been developed:

  • One for land being rezoned from rural to residential (which usually involves reticulation).
  • One for land that remains rural, whether or not reticulation is available.

It’s important to ensure that both the NDA reports and the calculator use the same version of Overseer – typically the latest available model.

If you’re applying for subdivision within the Rotorua Lakes catchment, please contact Rotorua Lakes Council directly on 07 348 4199 for queries. Remember to include a copy of the calculator with your application.

About OverseerFM

As Overseer is updated to include new research and improvements, the outputs from the reference files may change. This table displays the current reference file outputs for the latest version of Overseer and will be updated as new versions are released.

OverseerFM version 6.5.11 data input protocols for Lake Rotorua catchments.

The way that data is entered into OverseerFM can affect the outputs. Data Input Protocols are used when submitting OverseerFM analyses to Council to ensure that these differences are minimised.
