The Kaitiaki Grant supports kaitiakitanga by contributing to Māori capacity and capability projects that are in the early stages of development.
Applications open from 1 July 2025 and can be submitted throughout the financial year. The fund is available to iwi, hapū and Māori land trusts with land interests within the Bay of Plenty Regional Council boundaries.
What can the funding be used for?
Activities that aim to build capacity and capability of iwi, hapū, Māori land trusts to participate in Council decision-making. Projects must be in the early stages of development.
Examples of activities:
- Developing a strategy
- Contribution costs to hosting wānanga
- Costs towards facilitating collaboration
- Support to scope a project
Applications for implementation costs will not be considered (capital purchases, equipment, plants etc).
How much can we fund?
Applications for up to $5000 for your project.

The fund is available to iwi, hapū and Māori land trusts with land interests within the Bay of Plenty Regional Council boundaries.
