My principal place of residence is in the Eastern Bay of Plenty General Constituency area.

Born and raised in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, I have owned and operated my own businesses for 47 years. I served 27 years representing Kawerau District Council, including 21 years as Mayor. The past 3 years I have represented the residents of the Eastern Bay on the BOP Regional Council.

It is vital that we keep representation local ensuring our communities are heard and understood.

I have extensive knowledge and understanding of the challenges Local Government face. Climate and geological change, spatial planning, water and local government reforms all issues directly affecting our daily lives.

I bring strong professional leadership and a sensible approach. I'm not afraid to ask the hard questions and I make no unrealistic promises.

I seek your support to enable me to continue to advocate for the interests and wellbeing of Eastern Bay of Plenty communities ensuring we remain a resilient, thriving, and vibrant region.

I have a broad range of governance and business skills along with hands on real life experience, centred around strategic planning, financial understanding and operational experience. I have held Directorships on commercial companies, industry good organisations, including not for profit organisations, and I was a former Opotiki District Councillor.

I can add value and provide strong, fair and experienced representation, advocating for the Eastern Bay of Plenty and the wider Bay of Plenty region.

I would like to see; BOPRC to become more enabling, ensuring that growth is encouraged but balanced with environmental outcomes that are sustainable. That BOPRC is outcome focused rather than output focused, that there is efficiency in service delivery, reduced bureaucracy and ensure accountability mechanisms are in place. Reform of Local/regional government is coming. BOPRC needs to be relevant, efficient and in a strong position moving into the reform process.

As a sociologist with deep understanding of people, place, and identity, I believe true regional success begins with balance — between environment and economy, past and future, science and lived experience. Clean water, strong ecosystems, and resilient infrastructure aren’t just environmental goals — they’re social responsibilities.

My background spans journalism, counselling, research, and investigations, always guided by one principle: what genuinely helps people and communities thrive?

With both international insight and local roots, I offer fresh perspective; one that listens carefully, negotiates thoughtfully, and acts courageously. I value our region’s heritage while leaning into innovation, and I’m confident navigating complexity to find common ground.

We face important choices. I bring a steady hand, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to outcomes that serve the whole community. Let’s protect what matters and build a thriving future —together.

My principal place of residence is in the Eastern Bay of Plenty General Constituency area.

Over the past 30 years, I have lived, worked and raised a family in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

My work experience includes roles in horticulture, farming, forestry, equestrian, biosecurity,

transportation and public relations. I have qualifications in horticulture, ecology and behaviour change, and I am doing a PhD in rural research. I have held volunteer and governance roles with Hospice, Sustainable Business Network, Cycle Action Whakatane, Whakatane Kiwi Trust, Sustainable Otakiri and EBOP District Trust.

Healthy land, air and water are necessary for us all to thrive. To achieve long-lasting results, we need collaboration, alliances, incentives and education rather than more rules and punishment. Local government reform is on the horizon. To be fit for purpose, reform should be driven from the community up, rather than from central government down.

My thanks to former Regional Councillors, Bill Clark and Malcolm Whitaker, for nominating me.
