Dairy farming and livestock

The land is one of your farms most valuable assets. Managing it productively and sustainably is key to retaining and improving its long-term value.

Rural living and lifestyle blocks

Lifestyle blocks are abundant in the Bay of Plenty, with many people running a small number of livestock or undertaking horticulture activities on their land.

Horticulture

Horticulture is one of the largest industries in New Zealand, bringing in billions of dollar annually and providing thousands of jobs nationwide. Some horticulture activities can have significant consequences on our surrounding environment.

Forestry

Exotic forestry makes up about 16 percent of the land in our region. Most of this forestry is in large tracts like the Kāingaroa Plateau, but there are also many smaller woodlots and farm forestry blocks around the region.

Support and advice for landowners

Whether you are a farmer, grower, forestry organisation, agri-business or community group, we are here to help.

Across the Bay of Plenty, the Regional Council has land management officers that support and encourage individuals and groups into better land use practices. This includes reducing the amount of sediment and nutrients entering our waterways, encouraging retirement of unproductive land, adapting to climate change impacts, and protecting and increasing habitat for native birds and plants to thrive.

Help comes in many forms, from technical advice and guidance, through to potential co-investment for high-priority areas or community funding for grassroots projects.
