These school holidays, your mission is to become a Guardian of the Moana by learning about the marine villains threatening our oceans and designing a superhero with the power to stop them. Meet the bad guys, discover how they harm our native species, then create a hero that can protect the moana.

Marine pests are bad species that are not native to New Zealand. Some are already here and some we don’t want to arrive. They can spread quickly throughout New Zealand’s coasts on boats and fishing equipment.
Marine pests are bad for our seas and native species because they ruin our natural habitats and steal our precious resources. This makes it harder for our native species to survive in New Zealand as their homes are being ruined and they struggle to find food.
